Last-chance Writing Prompt #1

One of the most common themes in fiction is inheritance–sons are destined to become their fathers,  a prophesy is passed down to determine the speaker’s fate, and memories are hashed and rehashed among friends to create something new entirely.

PROMPT:

Turn this trope on its head. Deconstruct what inheritance means. What happens when the inescapability is removed, or the cyclical nature? Can we still call it something inherited? Does this concept change the world your characters inhabit? What does a traditional Hero’s Quest look like without this? Be specific, and focus on relationships in your work.
