Prompt #64

Summer is almost over but that doesn’t mean it has to end. Take a
moment to reflect on your favorite sensory details of the season: the smell of chlorine, freshly cut grass, sunscreen, the gritty feeling of sand, or the tightness of your skin when you get into your 120 degree car.

PROMPT

Take one of those details and push them to the limits of pleasure and into something far worse. What if each time your character got into her car her skin became tighter until it didn’t fit? What if every time a character smelled freshly cut grass or chlorine, their nose bled a little and they were debilitated by memory? Don’t focus on the physical reactions to your character, but focus on all of the details. Pin down what makes these sensory memories so impactful, deconstruct the reaction until the response is strange or alien.
