Prompt #46 — Write Like Kevin Sampsell
In Sampsell’s “Distress” (view here), we are presented with the scenario of a woman asking a man to call her when he finds himself in distress, or scared. What we get, after the man goes in search of this feeling, are images of two men boxing and how powerful these violent the acts can be toward those who view them. When the man finds himself distressed and calls the woman, we see that her fantasy of the man being the one who is scared doesn’t live up to its potential, and she can’t keep up the act of being the dominant, or violent, role player.
PROMPT
Write a story that breaks down a violent or erotic act in a meticulous way. The more tenderly you can write the overblown details, the better. Does the tenderness maintain a level of seriousness, or does humor come out as at the end of “Distress”?
