Prompt #49 — Write Like Amanda Corbin
Here, Corbin transports the Greek gods into the modern Era, and uses them in a humorous commentary on social media. Though, she balances humor and her critique with several very beautiful lyric descriptions such as, “the humid winds melted his hair,” “the briny smell rubbed… with a vengeance,” and “placid pools of fresh water where no laughter swam.” Without these moments where so much attention is paid to the language, the piece would ultimately fall flat.
PROMPT
Greek gods have long served as inspiration. Pull a character or situation from mythology (Greek or other) and re-write an event in their history or write the characters into a modern situation. Allow the character or situation the same beauty, strength, or strangeness that Ovid or Homer would include, but add subtle modern touches.
This is great. Thanks for the lovely commentary & for writing the prompt.
