Prompt #16

The Unstable Character

You get to the party you’ve been looking forward to all week, and BAM. He’s there, the guy who is always on some new drug you’ve never heard of (“Pepperjack man, half the room moves fast and half is just too purple”) and ends up hitting on all the married people before emerging from the coat closet with his ears bleeding.

PROMPT:

Take the most unstable person you know (it’s ok if it’s you!), and employee him at a delicate workplace. Sick kittens? Sick kids? Sick faberge eggs? Sick art? Think Georgie pulling the knife out of the guy’s eye in Denis Johnson’s “Emergency”. It’s easy to make a disaster, it’s easy to make the character be a kind, true soul. What middle ground exists in our trembling world?
