Calling For Your Everything

General Submissions

We’re now reading for NANO Fiction Issue 7.1, so please send your flash fiction our way! Although we’re always reading open submissions, here are some things we’d be particularly interested in seeing:

Pieces that experiment with form while still balancing narrative.
Pieces that tell us a story we haven’t read before.
Pieces that tell us stories we think we are tired of reading–but tell them in such in a new way that we gain fresh insights.
Pieces that remain attentive to language and lyricism without abandoning story.
Pieces that surprise us–but not by using a trick ending.
Pieces that take unexpected perspectives on commonly-seen stories–for example, rather than showing us the accident or the hospital bed, show us the moment she realizes his wheelchair won’t fit through the door of their favorite restaurant.

If you have something that you think will excite us, send it our way.

Review Editor

NANO Fiction is also looking for someone to write monthly reviews of flash fiction manuscripts (and sometimes other books by NANO Fiction contributors) for our website. Qualified candidates should ideally be people who enjoy giving their opinion on books, are excited about flash fiction, and want to be part of the flash fiction community. This position is unpaid, but you will have a byline and your name on the NANO Fiction web masthead. Also, you will likely get free books, 5 pages in one of our print issues a year, and the love and respect of your peers.

When applying, please email the following three documents as Word Docs or PDFs:

A copy of your CV or resume with current contact details.
A sample book review. If you have published book reviews before, please feel free to include a sample clip. If not, please attach a review on a book of your choosing.
List two or three books you might be interested in reviewing and one paragraph about why you’d like to review books for NANO Fiction.

Please send applications to: editor@nanofiction.org.
