Join us for Book ‘Em and the Books to Prisons Project August 2 in Northport!

NANO Fiction is thrilled to join the Books to Prisons Project at its first-ever book event in West Alabama.  Book ‘Em: a gathering of authors and readers will take place at the Northport Civic Center on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Among the featured speakers are the international bestselling author and journalist Rene Denfeld, University of Alabama professor Joanne J. Terrell, and many more. The event is free to the public and will celebrate writing, honor book culture, and promote literacy through addresses, panel discussions, and readings. Also addressed will be the practical concerns of getting published.

The Books to Prisons Project of Alabama was inspired by the D.C. branch of the organization, which has sustained regular mailings of books to inmates all over the US since 1999.  The Project provides free (donated) reading material in response to inmates’ letters and works to help establish or supplement libraries in correctional facilities in our state, having already donated over 1300 packages of four to six books.
